FAQs
What is the Convention Activity Survey (CAS)?
The CAS is a research programme that monitors and benchmarks the performance of professional conferencing and meeting venues in New Zealand. It focuses primarily on event and delegate activity associated with MICE events (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) and special occasions. Any venue can participate in the CAS for free. The programme is fully funded by the Ministry of Tourism, CINZ and Convention Bureaux New Zealand.
How does the CAS work?
Registered venues throughout the country enter information about the events they host through a customized website at www.casresearch.co.nz. We then produce a monthly market share report for each venue as well as a quarterly market update.
What do I get?
As long as you submit data you get access to monthly market share reports and quarterly market updates. The CAS is the only source of this information. The main benefit is knowing where you stand in your market; the only cost is the time involved in submitting your data each month.
How do I participate in the CAS?
First you have to register. This is free and should take around 3 minutes. You will then receive password-protected access to the survey website – www.casresearch.co.nz. You can visit the website at any time during the month and enter some basic information about the events you’ve hosted.
When do I submit data?
You can submit information 24/7. The reporting cycle is monthly, so if you don’t enter your events as they occur you will need to enter them all within a few days of the end of each month. We will notify you of the deadlines for data entry each month via email.
Which type of events should I include?
Please include all MICE events you host (meetings, incentive activities, conferences, exhibitions) as well as any special occasions e.g. dinners, balls, cocktail parties, birthday parties, weddings etc.
Who else will see my data?
Only Covec and the Ministry of Tourism will have access to unit record data. The information you provide is combined with input from other venues to create market-level statistics.
I would like to add or change a user – what should I do?
You can add, edit or delete users for your venue by logging into www.casresearch.co.nz and using the functions contained in the My Account tab.
What if I have no events to report for the month?
If you have no events to report for the month please log into www.casresearch.co.nz and click the “No events hosted this month” button at the top left of the Enter Data tab.
Who is Covec?
Covec is the leading provider of research, analysis and thought leadership to both the tourism and events sectors in New Zealand. If you would like more information please go to www.covec.co.nz.
